Let Them Know You Are Here
By: Alan Richardson

If you don?t have a real live person visiting your website to buy something, all your work may be in vein. What work? Well, let?s see. You have an appropriate website, you have a sales letter that has an enormous conversion rate and you even have a product that has already been proven to have a very high demand for in the market place. But what do you do if you are a website novice and do not have a list a mile long of people to sell to? What if your page is on the sixty eighth page of the search engine results? Following are a few tried and true techniques that will generate traffic to your site.

One of the first things to mention is that even though you may have your website optimized for search engine, it is not the only way you will a large amount of traffic. Please realize that the results page is really just a web page itself, made to list similar websites found on the web. Bear in mind that you want to have your webpage listed on the first page of the list so more people will see you link, and click on it. Of course, the more people who see it and click, the more traffic, and the more money you will make.

Now, taking the more clicks equals more traffic equals more money idea, the result will be effectively the same if your site is mentioned on a sight with very high traffic. Now, imagine piggy backing on a site that was listed first on Yahoo!?s website. Be careful, you may receive so many visitors to your site that your bandwidth may not be able to hold everyone. We should all have such problems! But the trick is to make the big guys like you. Give them a reason to link to your site. Maybe it is a solution to a problem that has been plaguing the sites visitors, or may be it is the key to the Meaning of Life that can only be found on your site. What ever it is, make sure it makes you unique.

Another option is to ask other high traffic website to link back to yours if the two are related. This is called reciprocal linking and is common for linkage gaining. Basically it is a ?scratch my back, I?ll scratch yours approach. However, before you do this, take a long hard look at your site as if you were an outsider. Is it something you would want to direct your readers to? Is it relevant?

The key is to make sure the website actually offers something of value, not just a shell to attract clicks!
