When one indulges in a business exchange, you pay for a product and you expect to get a product that is worth the price paid. You would find that eBay surely have many security features but if you are not careful nothing is going to save you from being cheated of your money. It is for you to check if you are paying your money to the right person.
No amount of security can save you from losing your money if you send your money to defrauders. That is why it is imperative that you always check the sellers for his reputation and for his feedback rating. You just need to read the history of the eBay seller you want to deal with to get an idea of his credentials. And if the credentials are worthy of your trust, then only you should trust them with your money.
CHECKING FEEDBACK RATINGS
When you look at the items description page, you would find a box in the top right hand corner about the seller named "Seller Information." This page would reveal the name of the seller, his feedback ratings, and positive feedback percentage. It would also display stars if the seller has earned it.
Stars are categorized and given different colors. The color coding sequence is yellow, blue, turquoise, purple, red, green, shooting yellow, shooting turquoise, shooting purple and shooting red. It goes without saying that anyone with a shooting star is bound to be an experienced eBay campaigner and you can deal with him.
And when you click on the seller's name, you get a detailed report about his background. This page would display the total number of people who gave him ratings be it positive or negative. With it you also get a breakdown by time. And yes, there would also be comments left for them on this page.
There is a caveat with feedbacks though. It is generally assumed that the higher the number of feedbacks that a seller has got, the more he could be trusted. But this is not always the fact. What you should be looking at is positive feedbacks and if the rating is anything less than 99%, you should look at the details carefully.
You can start with the most recent transactions and the feedbacks that are left for them. And there is one more thing. You can't go on punishing someone for the things he did in the past. If you find some seller improving his acts after one misdeed, you can surely trust him. And that is where time breakdown comes into play. You should never ignore a negative feedback in the recent past. It is your money and you should be very careful about it. Look into the profile of the seller carefully before you trust anyone with your money.
So, we have seen how one should deal with sellers on eBay. Always remember that there are plenty of people out there who would willingly cheat you of your money and it is for you to protect yourself.
